Dispute over the painting by Niko Pirosmani continues 2011-05-09 The dispute over the painting by Niko Pirosmani" Black Lion" continues. Vyacheslav Efimov, Russian owner of the painting hired the Georgian lawyer Gocha Svanidze in Tbilisi. Karaman Kutateladze, Georgian owner of the painting by Niko Pirosmani" Black Lion" will open a complaint in the Moscow City Court tomorrow. Karaman Kutateladze demands annulment of the letter of warrant. The lawyer Dimitri Gabunia appeals to the court for conducting seizure of "Black Lion". Kutateladze asserts that the painting is his, and that he himself became a victim of the swindling scheme when Russian businessman Vyacheslav Efimov made him sign a letter of warrant back in 2002. The Russian businessman accuses Kutatelidze of lie in return. He says that Kutateladze made ado with purpose to obtain additional funds. "Black Lion" was exhibited at Russian Antique Salon in Moscow several days ago. The painting was actually stolen in Georgia in 1993 out of the house of the former rector of the Academy of Arts of Georgia Apollon Kutateladze. "Black Lion", written in 1906, is considered one of the best pictures Niko Pirosmani. According to the director of the Museum of Arts of Georgia George Marsagishvili, rumors that the picture may be in Moscow, appeared not so long ago, before that nothing was known about it.
