Boiling the Ocean: Prosecuting Foreign Crimes planned in the US

www.dmcantor.com Today's video from David M Cantor, a Phoenix DUI Lawyer, covers recently proposed legislation that would prosecute criminals who conspire in the US to commit a crime in foreign countries. The reason for this proposed law is centered around a crime in 2007 where the suspects ran a drug deal that occurred in Venezeula and France but planned it while in Miami, Florida. The prosecution tried to bring them up on US charges but the court threw the case out since the actual crime had not occurred in the US. While David agrees that morally it is wrong to plan any crime regardless of where it is perpetrated, but making that a crime of its own will open a Pandora's Box. The US Justice system is already overwhelmed with too many cases, Federal prosecutors' issues with ethics, and frivolous lawsuits. Adding a broad policy of charging people for planning to commit crimes in other countries will add a huge burden and slow the courts even more. Of course this is David's opinion, what do you think?
